STAT Planning is proud to announce that Jessica Hird has been awarded Young Planner of the Year at the prestigious East Midlands RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) Awards for Planning Excellence 2025. This accolade recognises exceptional talent and dedication among early-career professionals making a significant impact in the field of town planning.
The award celebrates Jessica’s outstanding contribution to the planning profession, including a passion for collaboration, a commitment to innovation, and strong advocacy for future generations of planners.
“Planning is one of those careers where no two days are ever the same,” Jess said. “Whether it’s shaping places, solving complex problems, or supporting communities to grow and thrive – it’s never a dull day in planning. I’m incredibly honoured to be recognised in this way.”
The nomination for the award came from Kay Carpenter, whose support and encouragement Jess acknowledged with deep gratitude.
“I’m especially thankful to Kay Carpenter for the nomination. Your support has meant so much throughout my journey. This award is as much a reflection of the amazing people I work alongside as it is of any individual achievement.”
At STAT Planning, Jess plays a central role in delivering high-quality planning solutions that reflect both local needs and long-term sustainability. Their ability to navigate complex planning processes, engage constructively with stakeholders, and deliver positive outcomes has earned praise from clients, colleagues, and the wider planning community.
Beyond day-to-day work, Jess is also a passionate advocate for inspiring young people to consider a career in planning.
“There is so much emerging talent and enthusiasm out there. Part of what drives me is helping others see just how rewarding, creative, and impactful this profession can be,” Jess added. “We need to keep opening doors and showing the next generation how planners play a crucial role in shaping the future of our cities, towns, and rural areas.”
The RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence are a long-standing fixture in the planning calendar, showcasing best practice, innovation, and leadership across the UK. This year’s East Midlands ceremony brought together professionals from across the region to celebrate the people and projects that are making a real difference in planning and placemaking.
Everyone at STAT Planning is immensely proud of Jessica’s achievement, and we look forward to supporting their continued success as a leader in the profession.
